Electrocoagulation (EC), is a technique used for wastewater treatment, wash water treatment, industrial processed water, and medical treatment. Electrocoagulation has become a rapidly growing area of wastewater treatment due to its ability to remove contaminants that are generally more difficult to remove by filtration or chemical treatment systems, such as emulsified oil, total petroleum hydrocarbons, refractory organics, suspended solids and heavy metals.

TRL’s present ULTRA-EC relates to improvements in an Electrocoagulation process and a plant for treating industrial wastewater to reduce the content of solutes and solids in the water, so that the water may be re-used or be discharged safely, whereas solutes and solids are separated as sludge that may be further treated, used as it is, or deposited, dependent on the content thereof. These include, among others, refractory organics, colloidal particles, suspended particles, turbidity, colour or even ions(heavy metals, nitrates).

More specifically, ULTRA-EC relates to improvements of process for Electrocoagulation, Advanced Oxidation and Filtration for the treatment of waste water using Sonar waves. This technology is used first time by TRL in the World / India. Pilot plant test facilities available at our factory for your waste water testing.

Difference & Adv. between Electrocoagulation and Chemical Coagulation

Electro Coagulation

Chemical Coagulation

Crystal clear water is available for all wastewater Colour removal is not possible for all chemicals
COD &BOD are drastically reduced COD & BOD cannot be reduced
Sludge produced is non toxic Sludge produced is toxic
Very low operating cost High operating costs, almost four times
Hardness of water is reduced or remains same Hardness of water is increased
Sludge volume is very less High volume of Sludge is produced due to chemical additions
Flocs formed are bigger compared to CC Flocs formed are smaller
Simple and easy working High operating problems

Advantages of EC – Ultra Simple Operation & Cleaner Effluent

  • Proven Technology and No pretreatment of water required from 5 to 9 PH
  • Water can be reused in Process
  • Converts Dissolved solids in Suspended Solids helping in physical separation
  • Removes broad spectrum of Pollutants from any waste stream
  • Reduced treatment cost, Chemical usage and thus reduced Sludge generation
  • Can treat any kind of Effluent ie. Sewage to Hazardous Waste Water
  • Modular design for higher capacities, Expansion or up gradation
  • No lead time for Process initiation
  • No more need of Expensive technologies
  • Cost of treatment varies from Rs. 30 to 100 for 1000 liters of Waste water depending upon the quality
